Soneva began with Soneva Fushi in 1995 and helped establish the barefoot-luxury resort model. Its current hotel portfolio is concentrated entirely in the Maldives: the jungle island of Fushi, the large overwater villas and lagoon of Jani, and the intentionally tiny Soneva Secret. The Soneva in Aqua yacht is part of the wider experience portfolio but is not a hotel and is excluded here. Large villas, extensive food programmes, astronomy, children’s facilities, and environmental systems make the resorts operate more like private island worlds than conventional beach hotels.
