The Phoenician's Scottsdale Rooms Get a Sonoran Makeover Down to the Cactus Wren
The Phoenician in Scottsdale has finished a multimillion-dollar refresh of its rooms and Canyon Suites, with Sonoran motifs. Here is what guests will notice.
The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort in Scottsdale has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of its guestrooms, corridors and Canyon Suites accommodations, Luxury Travel Report reported October 12. Parker Torres Design led the project, and the new look draws directly on the Sonoran Desert, down to motifs of the saguaro flower, the cactus wren and the chuckwalla lizard.
What changed in the rooms?
The refresh swaps the resort's older interiors for a palette of warm earth tones with jewel-colored accents meant to echo the shifting colors of the Arizona sky. Custom carpets, layered textiles and contemporary lighting give rooms a more current feel. The resort says the design honors the heritage of the Pima people and the Indigenous history of Camelback Mountain, with tribal-inspired carpet patterns and pieces that pair contemporary art with traditional craft.
What about The Canyon Suites?
The Canyon Suites is the Forbes Five-Star boutique hotel inside the larger resort, and it received the same design update with a more residential, intimate feel. The work also covers the Villas at Canyon Suites, which launched in February. Hospitality Design described them in June as eight single-story casitas holding 20 accommodations, designed by architecture firm Cooper Carry with Parker-Torres interiors. Each villa has two to four suites, a full kitchen, a dining area, a living room and a private terrace with a fire table. Patios face south and west toward sunset over a pond and the golf course, and villa guests have their own pool and a private amenity area.
Is the rest of the resort the same?
Yes. The multilevel pool complex, The Phoenician Spa and the 18-hole championship golf course are unchanged, and dining still runs through J&G Steakhouse, Mowry & Cotton and Thirsty Camel. The renovation is about where guests sleep, not a reinvention of the resort's facilities.
Why does the timing matter?
Scottsdale's high season runs through the cooler months, when golf, spa and pool demand peaks and rates climb. Finishing the rooms in October means winter and spring guests get the new product without construction. The upgrade also lands as the local luxury market shifts: Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North is under contract to sell for $372 million.
Which room should you book?
For couples who want the full resort scene, the refreshed main-building rooms now match the price point better than they did. For more privacy and Five-Star service, The Canyon Suites remains the pick inside the property. Families or groups planning a longer stay should look at the villas, where a shared kitchen and living space can make several suites under one roof better value than separate rooms. Ask at booking whether your specific room category is among the renovated inventory, and request a mountain or golf course view for the classic Camelback outlook.
