London Finally Gets a Waldorf Astoria, Inside a Monument Built for Queen Victoria

Hilton will open the first Waldorf Astoria in London this autumn inside Admiralty Arch, the Grade I listed monument that closes the top of The Mall, with Buckingham Palace at the far end of the processional route. The restored building holds 114 rooms and suites. Reservations are open, with the booking calendar starting in March 2027.

Admiralty Arch was commissioned by King Edward VII as a memorial to his mother, Queen Victoria, and completed in 1910 to a design by Aston Webb, the architect responsible for the present facade of Buckingham Palace. It spent most of the following century as government offices before Reuben Brothers took on the conversion.

The food program is the loudest signal of intent. Clare Smyth is opening Coreus, a fine-dining room built around British coastal produce and sustainably sourced seafood, alongside a small Whiskey & Seaweed bar. Daniel Boulud returns to the city with Cafe Boulud, an all-day rooftop restaurant whose terrace looks across St James's Park. Between them the two chefs hold eight Michelin stars. Event space includes a ballroom for 320.

A pattern in Whitehall

The opening extends a run of state buildings turned into ultra-luxury hotels in this corner of London. Raffles London at The OWO did the same thing to the Old War Office a short walk away, and both projects rest on the same bet: that a listed government address carries more weight with high-spending travelers than a new-build tower ever could.

It also fills an obvious hole in Hilton's luxury map. Waldorf Astoria has run just one other British property, Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, while rivals stacked up London addresses. The arch puts the brand within walking distance of The Goring and The Lanesborough, in one of the few London locations that cannot be replicated.
