Bulgari Resort Bali: Private-pool villas above the Indian Ocean, with Italian dining, Balinese rituals and a tiny cliff-access beach club
Bulgari Resort Bali occupies 8.4 hectares above Uluwatu on the southern Bukit Peninsula, 160 metres over the Indian Ocean. Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel shaped the 2006 resort from hand-cut stone, dark Javanese mahogany and Balinese forms, with private-pool villas stepping down the cliff. The house currently gives a total of 59 villas and mansions, but an older official category inventory sums to 64 and cannot be reconciled with today's nine-category catalogue. Treat 59 as the current total without attaching the legacy split; the only safe present category counts are eight one-bedroom Ocean Cliff Villas and five Mansions.
Choose the exact accommodation before arranging the rest of the stay. Ocean View looks across gardens and the roofscape, Premier Ocean View sits higher, and Ocean Cliff is nearest the drop. The two-bedroom cards say 500 square metres while the current digital brochure says 550. The Bvlgari Villa is a singular 1,300-square-metre residence with a 20-metre heated main pool, second lower pool, cinema and spa room. Current Mansion material gives a 1,710–4,400-square-metre range, with older official figures extending the top end slightly. Extra-bed terms need written confirmation: the shared benefit promises one complimentary bed and breakfast per bedroom, detailed villa terms call beds chargeable, and Mansion pages state two complimentary beds even where the general wording implies more. Serpenti Villa package benefits belong to a separate minimum-two-night, advance-deposit offer and should not be assumed on every rate.
Lock Il Ristorante - Niko Romito and spa treatments early. Il Ristorante serves dinner 18:00–22:00, takes last orders at 21:00 and does not admit children five and under. Sangkar runs 06:30–23:00, with breakfast available throughout the day. The Bvlgari Bar opens 10:00–01:00; its page sets aperitivo at 17:00–19:00, while the current brochure says 18:00–19:00, so check the day's timing. Do not plan a meal around La Spiaggia without confirmation: an older resort brochure describes a seafood restaurant and bar, but current dining navigation omits it and the present beach page offers only a tiny in-house-guests-only club with refreshments. The Beach is reached by inclinator and cliffside stairs and has four pairs of sunbeds and one cabana. The spa's current timetable is 09:00–21:00, superseding a 2018 menu that closed at 22:00.
Published villa and mansion rates include 24-hour breakfast, non-alcoholic minibar drinks and snacks, pool snacks from 12:00–16:00, sunset aperitivo canapés, laundry, pressing, butler and packing service, private yoga, a village walk and the Melukat purification ceremony. Return airport transfers with VIP Immigration Service are specifically included for The Bvlgari Villa and Mansions, not universally for standard villas. Restaurant meals beyond an included breakfast, most drinks, spa treatments, private dining, wider in-villa meals, excursions and personal training should be treated as additional unless the selected rate or offer says otherwise. Mansion butlers can serve meals and arrange an al fresco barbecue, but the house does not publish a complete 24-hour in-villa menu beyond breakfast.
Book this resort for private pools, strong villa separation, a dramatic cliff setting and a stay that can move between Balinese cultural activities and Italian dining without leaving the grounds. Skip it if direct sand-level access, a confirmed swim beach, uncomplicated extra-bed terms or a broad current beachfront restaurant programme is essential. Independent guest reviews consistently praise the ocean setting, privacy, villa pools, design and attentive butler service. Recurring cautions concern the remote cliff position, the inclinator-and-stairs beach journey, uneven food or service experiences in a smaller minority of reviews, and value once optional dining and wellness are added. Tripadvisor shows 4.5 from 1,061 reviews, while the current Google-attributed place snapshot shows 4.7 from 1,963; their 3,024 reviews produce a review-count-weighted result of 4.63 out of 5, displayed here as 9.3 out of 10.

- Resolve the extra-bed entitlement for every bedroom because the shared complimentary benefit conflicts with category charge and Mansion-limit wording.
- Book Il Ristorante, note that children five and under are not admitted, and use Sangkar or another confirmed option for younger diners.
- Confirm whether aperitivo begins at 17:00 or 18:00, then distinguish included sunset canapés from purchased drinks.
- Reserve spa treatments against the current 09:00–21:00 schedule and disclose any under-18 guest, who must be accompanied during treatment.
- Ask whether La Spiaggia restaurant service exists during the stay; otherwise plan The Beach only as a tiny guest-only club reached by inclinator and stairs.
- Set the next morning's breakfast location and timing; published rates include breakfast around the clock, but a complete 24-hour in-villa dining menu is not promised.
