Deplar Farm: A thirteen-room Fljót Valley lodge for guided summer, winter, and heli-ski stays
Deplar Farm is a 13-room adventure lodge in Iceland's Fljót Valley, combining guided days with a full-board house rhythm and a 5,000-square-foot wellness area. The room inventory is unusually specific: ten kings, including five with sleeping lofts, two queens, and one bunkroom. Grettir is the 95-square-metre room with a private sauna; Thor is the sole category explicitly identified as an ADA unit. The four Gallery Suites have ladder-accessed loft beds. Their bed description is unresolved: the room cards and current property documents say double beds, while corporate retreat copy says queens. The house does not publish an opening year, architect, room-specific maximum occupancies, or a whole-property step-free statement.
Set the stay's practical framework before selecting activities. Every published summer, winter, and heli card requires at least three nights. Check-in is 3:00 p.m. and check-out is 10:00 a.m.; early arrival or late departure is subject to availability and can be confirmed only 24 hours beforehand. A half deposit is non-refundable at booking and the balance is due 90 days before arrival. Cancellations more than 90 days out may qualify for credit toward a new stay arriving within 365 days of the original arrival, while cancellations within 90 days are generally non-refundable and non-creditable under the published terms. Reducing nights, rooms, or activities is treated as a cancellation.
The included Akureyri road transfer has narrow flight windows: arriving flights must land from 11:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., and departing flights must leave from 8:00 a.m. through noon. Outside those windows, off-time or private transfers cost extra and depend on availability. The road duration itself varies across house material: 90 minutes, 90–120 minutes, and about two hours are all published. The winter guide recommends taking an international flight on the afternoon after checkout and, where possible, staying near Keflavík the night before that departure. Private road or helicopter transfers can be arranged at extra cost, but helicopter movement remains weather and availability dependent.
Meals follow a lodge rather than restaurant model. Chef-prepared breakfast, lunch, après, and dinner are included, and dinner is normally communal at the long Nordic table. Private in-house, cellar-room, or outpost dinners are extras rather than separate restaurants. Non-alcoholic drinks and the in-room snack assortment are included; alcohol and tastings are extra, and outside alcohol is prohibited by the liquor licence. A Viking Dinner is included only for full-lodge buyouts of four nights or more. No fixed dining, bar, spa, pool, sauna, steam-room, or gym hours are published, so reserve any must-have private dinner or treatment in advance.
The spa inventory has two unresolved discrepancies. Current lodge and wellness material and current seasonal and corporate sheets say three treatment rooms, while the linked floor plan labels four. Current lodge inventory lists one indoor hot tub beside the indoor-outdoor geothermal pool and does not list a separate outdoor tub; corporate retreat copy says there are indoor and outdoor hot tubs, while the floor plan shows one beside the pool. Treatments are extra, with Theragun use the only explicitly complimentary wellness item. Junior Massage is for children 11 and under and requires a parent or guardian to attend.
Calendar details also need written confirmation. For summer 2027, the live season page starts on June 5 while the current summer sheet starts on June 6; both end September 30. The live winter calendar ends in February, on February 28 in 2027 and February 29 in 2028, while corporate material describes winter as running through March. Summer surfing is listed as included on the live page and current summer sheet but is absent from the summer policy inclusion list; winter hiking from October through December is included on the live winter page and planning guide but omitted by the winter policy inclusion list. Atlantic salmon fishing, river permits, rods, and guides should ideally be secured at least six months ahead because availability is extremely limited and not guaranteed.
Heli-ski guests should separate package type from marketing shorthand. Full- and half-lodge packages explicitly receive private aircraft; individual-room guests share a semi-private helicopter with up to three groups of four, even though broad season inclusions refer to private helicopters. The policy specifies an H130 and an H125 B3, while season cards use the generic phrase A-Star B3 helicopters. Packages include 1.5 flight hours per night and guarantee one hour per day, with operations controlled by guides, pilots, weather, and mechanics. Ski or snowboard boots and helmets are not supplied. Only qualifying operational weather or mechanical shortfall below guaranteed flight time may receive a future-stay credit; injury, illness, ability, personal choice, declining to ski, or snow conditions do not create a refund or credit.
Capacity is another house disagreement: summer and winter booking cards and current seasonal sheets say a maximum of 34 guests for a buyout, while detailed summer and winter policy pages say 32. Heli packages separately cap skiing groups at 24. Book Deplar Farm if the communal table, adaptable guided days, and a mountain lodge worth enjoying when weather changes are part of the appeal. Skip it if private dining must be included, fixed facility hours are essential, ladder access is unsuitable for the intended Gallery loft user, or the trip succeeds only with guaranteed heli descents. Google scores the lodge 4.7 out of 5 from 60 reviews, while ReadyToTrip scores it 8 out of 10 from 15.

First day
- Confirm the three-night minimum, 3:00 p.m. check-in, 10:00 a.m. check-out, half deposit at booking, and balance due 90 days before arrival.
- Match flights to included Akureyri transfer windows: arrivals 11:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. and departures 8:00 a.m.–noon; other transfers are extra.
- Confirm breakfast arrangements with the lodge. Included in-room snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are not meal service, and no room-service menu or schedule is published.
- Choose the communal long table or arrange private dining at extra cost; alcohol is extra and outside alcohol is prohibited.
- Reserve wellness and ask whether the setup has three or four treatment rooms and one indoor hot tub or indoor and outdoor hot tubs.
- Confirm Thor's ADA features or the Gallery ladder and disputed double-versus-queen loft bed before assigning rooms.
- For heli-skiing, confirm private versus semi-private aircraft, pack ski or snowboard boots and a helmet, and review the no-credit rules for snow, injury, ability, or choosing not to ski.
- Confirm summer surfing and October–December winter hiking, which appear as included in some house material but are omitted from policy inclusion lists.
- Start Atlantic salmon requests at least six months ahead; availability is not guaranteed.

Category breakdown
Guests Love
Adaptable guided days
The strong scores suit a lodge whose guides can reshape the day around weather, ability, and the valley instead of a fixed resort timetable.
Wellness setting
The geothermal indoor-outdoor pool and mountain-facing wellness spaces are central to the stay when conditions interrupt outdoor plans.
Guests Warn
Communal dining
The long table is fundamental to the house style; guests seeking private meals should arrange and budget for them before arrival.
Limited review sample
Google has 60 reviews and ReadyToTrip has 15, so the high scores rest on a combined sample of 75.

Editor's Note
Ask the lodge to put the room assignment, transfer window, first communal or private dinner, spa booking, seasonal activity list, and heli package type into one confirmation. Gallery loft beds, buyout capacity, treatment-room and hot-tub inventories, seasonal dates, and selected activity inclusions differ across the house's own material.
