Laucala Island, Fiji
LAUCALA: Twenty-five private-pool villas on a Fijian island reached by AIR LAUCALA or private jet
LAUCALA is an independent private-island retreat in Cakaudrove, Fiji, with 25 villas and a private pool at every one. The current house describes ocean, lagoon, and rainforest outlooks, indoor-outdoor living, extensive private grounds, farm-to-table dining, and arrival by AIR LAUCALA or private jet. Its last detailed accommodation programme grouped the villas as Plantation beside white sand, Seagrass above the bay, Plateau on a green ridge, Wai over the lagoon, Udu on a rocky peninsula, and the request-only Delana compound high on the island. Those category pages are no longer published and current bookability by historical category is unknown; ask which categories are actually offered for your dates before relying on an old name, size, outlook, or occupancy.
Use the first exchange with reservations to settle the flight, villa, dinner plan, and spa. Official material disagrees on the Nadi flight: two sources say 50 minutes while the press kit says 55; one source names a King Air B300 and another a B350. It also calls the airport both a 24/7 Category 4 private airport and a day-operated airstrip. The current house publishes none of those operational details, and it does not say AIR LAUCALA is included. Private international arrivals require advance arrangements and add customs, immigration, and quarantine costs; the island airport has no fuel service. Ask reservations for the itinerary that applies to the actual flight rather than planning around any one historical figure.
The dining promise is broad but the live timetable is not. Current official wording includes dining and refreshments and says most on-island experiences are included. The last detailed programme named Plantation House, Seagrass Lounge and Restaurant, Pool Bar, Beach Bar, Rock Lounge, and In-Residence Dining; only in-residence service carried printed hours, 6.00am to 10.00pm. No current venue roster, restaurant hours, weekly closes, dress codes, or private-dinner notice periods are published. Ask where dinner will be served on the first night, whether any special vintages or private arrangements sit outside the inclusion, and which experiences are among the unspecified exceptions to “most.”
Spa planning needs the same confirmation. The official wellness page printed 9.00am to 9.00pm, while the official treatment menu printed 10.00am to 6.00pm with extended hours on request; current hours are not published. The menu limited retreat facilities to guests 16 and above but also offered children's treatments without explaining under-16 access. The Laucala Island Coconut Bath required at least 24 hours' notice, and cancellations required four hours' notice. Outside the spa, no dive may take place within 24 hours of air travel. Horse riding has a minimum age of eight and requires closed-toe shoes, while PADI Bubblemaker starts at eight. Put those rules beside the departure flight and family ages before activities are reserved.
Villa specifications carry one unresolved conflict: Udu is 600 square metres on the official accommodation index and 800 square metres in the later official press kit. Delana is 11,000 square metres for up to six, formed from two connected villas, and available only on request, but it was omitted from the accommodation index. Official material does not print villa bed types, pool lengths, villa-specific age restrictions, or steps-only access. Dining, refreshments, the villa and its pool, and most on-island experiences are the present inclusion language; direct international clearance is an identified extra, while AIR LAUCALA, spa treatment, and activity charging should be confirmed rather than assumed.
Book LAUCALA for the privacy of a 25-villa island, a pool with every villa, farm-led dining, golf, reef, horses, trails, and a journey designed around the island's own aviation. Skip it if you need a fully published current room catalogue, fixed restaurant and spa hours before booking, or certainty about the air transfer without direct confirmation. Tripadvisor scores it 4.9 from 65 reviews and Google scores it 4.9 from 10; both are exceptional but small samples.

First day
- Confirm the AIR LAUCALA or private-jet itinerary directly; official material conflicts on 50 versus 55 minutes, B300 versus B350, and 24/7 versus day-operated airport access.
- Repeat the villa category and specifications, especially Udu's unresolved 600 versus 800 square metres or Delana's request-only status.
- Ask where the first dinner will be served and what dining, refreshments, private arrangements, and special vintages the current inclusion covers.
- Reconfirm spa hours and access before booking: official clocks conflict, and a 16+ facility rule appears beside children's treatments.
- Place all diving at least 24 hours before air travel; riders and Bubblemaker participants must be eight or older, and riders need closed-toe shoes.

Guests Love
Private-island space
The 4.9 Tripadvisor score from 65 reviews repeatedly centres on privacy, villa space, and the sense of having the island landscape rather than a conventional resort corridor.
Personal service
Across the small review sample, attentive island service and highly tailored days are recurring strengths alongside the private-pool villas.
Guests Warn
A small public sample
Tripadvisor has 65 reviews and Google has 10. Both score 4.9 out of 5, but prospective guests should recognise that the combined sample is limited.
Details require direct confirmation
The current official site gives the island promise rather than category cards or timetables, so the flight, villa, dining programme, and spa need a written itinerary.
The overall score is a review-count-weighted average of named public platforms, normalized to /10. Category scores — including cleanliness and location — are Hotel Flock editorial readings of those reviews, not a platform's private formula. Good to Know
- Udu is 600 sq m on the official accommodation index and 800 sq m in the later official press kit; ask LAUCALA to confirm the assigned residence.
- Official spa hours conflict: 9.00am–9.00pm on the wellness page versus 10.00am–6.00pm, extended on request, in the treatment menu. Current hours are not published.
- The spa menu limits retreat facilities to guests 16+, yet the same menu offers children's treatments; under-16 treatment access is not explained.
- Official Nadi flight times conflict at 50 versus 55 minutes, and aircraft references conflict between King Air B300 and B350.
- The island airport is described officially both as a 24/7 Category 4 private airport and as a day-operated airstrip. Use the itinerary supplied for the actual flight.
- No dive may take place within 24 hours of air travel. Horse riding and PADI Bubblemaker start at age eight; riding requires closed-toe shoes.
- Delana is request-only and appears in the detailed official press kit, although it was omitted from the official accommodation index.
- Current official inclusion wording covers dining, refreshments, and most on-island experiences. AIR LAUCALA inclusion and the excluded experiences are not published.
Editor's Note
Ask LAUCALA to place the villa category, flight itinerary, first dinner, spa hours, and included-versus-extra experiences in one confirmation. Udu's published size, the air journey, airport operation, and spa access all carry unresolved official discrepancies.
