Aman Names Its First Maldives Resort Amanolu for a 2028 Opening

Amanolu will bring 52 keys and 16 private-island residences to the Maldives in 2028, designed by longtime collaborator Kerry Hill Architects.

Aman has given its first Maldives project a name: Amanolu. The 52-key resort, due in 2028, will also include a limited collection of 16 branded residences, marking the brand's long-awaited entry into one of the world's densest luxury resort markets.

The name blends Aman, Sanskrit for peace, with Olu, a nod to the water lily that appears across the Indian Ocean. That framing fits the brand's usual quiet-luxury pitch: privacy, nature, and a low key count rather than a mega-resort footprint.

What guests will find on site

Kerry Hill Architects, a frequent Aman partner, is designing Amanolu around white coralline beaches, lagoons, and indoor-outdoor living. Residences each sit on their own island. Some face a single shoreline for sunrise or sunset views; others stretch coast to coast with beaches on both sides.

Every residence is planned as a five-bedroom home with indoor and outdoor living opening onto private beach, an 82-foot pool, and a personal berth. Dedicated staff housing at each home is meant to keep service close without crowding the guest experience.

  • 52 hotel keys plus 16 branded residences
  • A dedicated wellness island with an Aman Spa and Spa Houses
  • An activity island for diving, snorkeling, and watersports
  • Dining venues that include Aman's global culinary concepts
  • Family facilities and gathering spaces for longer stays

Why this Maldives debut matters

The Maldives already hosts dozens of ultra-luxury flags, so Aman's late arrival is less about filling a gap in inventory and more about brand presence. Travelers who chase Aman for its small footprints and residential privacy finally get a Maldives option instead of routing through nearby islands under other brands.

For owners and guests alike, the private-island residences are the clearest differentiator. They sell a full-island lifestyle while still plugging into shared Amanolu amenities such as the wellness island and activity island. The hotel keys keep the stay approachable for guests who want Aman service without buying a residence.

If Aman executes at its usual standard, Amanolu will sit at the top of the Maldives booking conversation for years after 2028. Until then, the naming announcement is the signal that design, residential sales, and pre-opening marketing can move from concept to concrete plans.
