The Roman Hotel That Backdropped La Dolce Vita Is Becoming an Ultra-Luxury Address Again

The historic Hotel Majestic on Rome's Via Veneto — the first hotel built on the street in 1889, and a filming location in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita — is being converted into Baccarat Hotel Rome, with a late-2026 opening. Invel Real Estate has provided €111.2 million in financing for the transformation, and Starwood Capital Group's SH Hotels & Resorts will manage the finished property.

The 87-room hotel will include a terraced restaurant overlooking Via Veneto, a Grand Salon, a rooftop bar and lounge, and roughly 5,425 square feet of meeting space across five rooms. It sits a ten-minute walk from the Spanish Steps. Baccarat currently operates one hotel worldwide, Baccarat Hotel New York, making Rome only its second address and its first outside the United States.

Why it matters

Via Veneto was, for decades, the epicenter of Roman glamour before losing ground to other neighborhoods in the city's luxury hotel map. Rebuilding one of its founding properties under a young, design-forward brand like Baccarat is a bet that the street's cachet is recoverable — and a sign that Rome's ultra-luxury hotel scene still has room for a small, high-design operator to plant a flag next to the city's more established grande dame hotels.
