Fairmont Signs Its First Greece Resort on Crete's Chania Coast for 2029
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will open a 104-key beachfront resort in Chania, Crete in 2029, marking the brand's first-ever property in Greece.
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is entering Greece. Accor and partner Hersonissos Group Hotels have signed Fairmont Chania Resort, a 104-key beachfront property on the northwest coast of Crete, scheduled to open in 2029 as the brand's first hotel in the country.
The resort sits in Chania, with direct access to a sandy beach and a dedicated beach club. Plans call for 104 rooms, including 40 suites, five dining concepts plus a specialty restaurant, and a 900-square-metre wellness centre with six treatment rooms. An on-property chapel targets destination weddings, and separate kids and teens clubs are part of the family brief.
Architect Luciano Mazza is shaping the overall concept around Chania's Venetian maritime heritage, with interiors by Inge Moore and landscaping by Phil Jaffa. Fairmont already runs seventeen properties across Europe and North Africa and has five more hotels and resorts planned for that region, including work that will eventually brand Portugal's Victoria Golf Resort & Spa as a Fairmont.
Why a Crete debut matters for guests
Greece's ultra-luxury map has long tilted toward Athens and the Cyclades. Fairmont's Crete play puts a global Accor luxury brand on an island better known for independent resorts such as Elounda Peninsula than for international flags. For travellers who already book Fairmont for loyalty nights or multi-destination itineraries, Chania becomes a Mediterranean coastal option with a familiar operating system.
The scale stays relatively intimate at 104 keys. That is smaller than many Fairmont city hotels and closer to a resort footprint that can still feel personal on a busy Cretan summer calendar. Guests who want beach days close to Old Town Chania's harbour and Venetian walls get a brand-backed base without giving up the island's slower rhythm.
How it fits Fairmont's Mediterranean push
CEO Omer Acar framed the signing as Fairmont's inaugural entry into Greece and part of a selective Mediterranean expansion. Accor's luxury development leadership has separately called Greece a market where the group is growing with conviction. For readers comparing Greece stays, Fairmont Chania will sit in a different lane from Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens on the Athens Riviera: more beach-resort than urban retreat, timed for a 2029 opening rather than an immediate booking window.
Room categories, rates, and reservation dates have not been released. What is confirmed is the beachfront site, the key count, the dining and wellness program, and Fairmont's intent to root the design in Cretan place rather than a generic Mediterranean template. Travellers planning Greece for the end of the decade now have another named luxury option to watch on Crete.
