Four Seasons DIFC's KIGO Wins a Michelin Star and a Service Award
KIGO at Four Seasons Hotel DIFC earned one Michelin star on October 8, and chef Akinori Tanigawa also took the Michelin Guide Service Award.
Four Seasons Hotel Dubai International Financial Centre now has a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant. KIGO, the hotel's intimate kaiseki room in Dubai, received one Michelin star at the Michelin Guide Dubai 2026 ceremony on October 8, 2026, just over a year after opening. Chef Akinori "Aki" Tanigawa also won the Michelin Guide Service Award at the same event. KIGO was one of only two restaurants newly awarded a star in Dubai this year.
What is KIGO?
Led by Chef Aki, KIGO brings seasonal Japanese kaiseki to the DIFC with a deliberately small footprint: a 12-seat sushi counter, a private dining room and a limited number of tables. Menus change with the seasons rather than running a long year-round list, so each visit tracks ingredients at their peak. The room is run with Fundamental Hospitality as the culinary partner, under the Four Seasons hotel.
Why does the Service Award matter?
Michelin singled out "smooth and elegant service" and the warmth of the farewell. Chef Aki framed both awards as a team result and pointed to omotenashi, the Japanese idea of wholehearted hospitality, as the point of the room. For guests, that means the star is not only about the plate. Preferences for returning diners and the details of each visit are part of what the inspectors rewarded.
What should you know before booking?
With only a dozen counter seats, the counter will fill first. Ask the hotel to book KIGO when you reserve the room if dinner is the reason for the stay. Leonardo Baiocchi, regional vice president and general manager, called the star recognition of authentic cooking and team discipline in a city that already has a crowded fine-dining scene. Pair a DIFC stay with KIGO if you want kaiseki without crossing town; guests who prefer a beach resort still have Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach as the brand's other Dubai address.
How does this change a DIFC stay?
A Michelin star inside the hotel raises the property for short business trips where dinner and the room need to be in the same building. It also puts Four Seasons DIFC on the same dining conversation as Dubai's other hotel restaurants that guests plan trips around. Book early for the counter, and confirm seasonal menu timing if you are chasing a particular produce window.
