Four Seasons Plans a Cliffside Resort in Tangier Facing Spain Across the Strait
Four Seasons Resort Tangier will bring 99 rooms and 27 villas to Cap Malabata, the brand's fourth Morocco hotel after Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat.
Four Seasons has signed a cliffside resort in Tangier, Morocco, its fourth address in the country after Four Seasons Hotel Casablanca, Four Seasons Resort Marrakech and Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr. Four Seasons Resort Tangier will sit inside Royal Resort Cap Malabata, a waterfront masterplan backed by GFH, on more than 260 metres of coastline overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, with Spain visible across the water. Architecture is by Arjitec; interiors are by Goddard Littlefair. No opening date or rates have been released.
What will guests actually get?
The resort is planned for 99 guest rooms and suites, including 27 standalone villas. Public spaces lean coastal: expansive pool and waterfront lounging, four signature dining venues mixing Moroccan and international cooking, a full-service spa and fitness centre, and Four Seasons' Kids For All Seasons programme. Indoor and outdoor event space is part of the brief for celebrations and meetings with waterfront views. For travellers who already know Four Seasons in Morocco through Marrakech gardens or Casablanca city stays, Tangier adds the one piece the collection has lacked: a true Mediterranean cliff edge where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet.
Where is Cap Malabata, and how do you get there?
Cap Malabata sits on Tangier's eastern waterfront, outside the medina crush but close enough for day trips into the souks and the Kasbah. Four Seasons says the resort will be about 15 minutes from Tangier's high-speed train station and about 45 minutes from Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport. That train link matters: the Al Boraq line already connects Tangier to Casablanca and Rabat, so a multi-city Morocco itinerary that ends on the cliff becomes easier than it was a decade ago.
Why Tangier, and why now?
Ricardo Suarez, Four Seasons' group head of development, framed Tangier as the brand's fourth Morocco property in one of the region's most compelling destinations. Abdulwahed Al Kooheji, CEO of Royal Resort Cap Malabata, pointed to the city's location, heritage and waterfront as the reason for the partnership. Tangier has long drawn writers and travellers who wanted the edge of Europe without leaving Africa; a Four Seasons on that coast is a bet that the same guests who book Marrakech for the riads will add a stay for the strait views and quieter pace.
What should you do with this news?
Treat it as a pipeline story, not a bookable stay. Ask Four Seasons or your travel advisor to flag opening updates and villa versus room inventory, and watch whether Cap Malabata's wider masterplan adds beach clubs or residences that change the feel of the shoreline. Guests planning Morocco for 2027 and beyond can sketch a Casablanca or Rabat arrival, a Marrakech middle, and a Tangier finish once dates land. Until then, the three existing Four Seasons Morocco hotels remain the bookable map.
