Oberoi Unveils Sukoonvilas as Wadi Safar's First Hotel for Early 2027
Oberoi details The Oberoi Sukoonvilas, Wadi Safar: 60 villas near Diriyah and Riyadh, opening in early 2027 as the destination's first hotel.
Oberoi Hotels & Resorts has shared the first detailed look at The Oberoi Sukoonvilas, Wadi Safar, an all-villa resort set to open in the first quarter of 2027 as the first hotel in Saudi Arabia's new Wadi Safar destination. The site sits about 30 minutes from Riyadh and near Diriyah's UNESCO-listed At-Turaif district, inside a broader Saudi Arabia tourism push that pairs heritage landscapes with ultra-luxury stays.
Guests who want desert privacy without a long transfer from the capital get a clear so-what: 60 standalone villas and 10 branded residences on more than 37 acres, perched on a 70-metre escarpment rather than a dense city plot. Architecture firm Aedas and interiors studio Blink are shaping Najdi-inspired courtyards, water features and indoor-outdoor rooms meant to read as sanctuary, not spectacle.
Dining, wellness and the villa brief
Dining leans into a Saudi-India hospitality dialogue Oberoi is leaning into for this opening. Yatra will serve contemporary Indian cooking under Michelin-starred chef Rohit Ghai. Linnet brings pastry and cafe culture with Lily Vanilli. Beyla covers international menus, with poolside dining overlooking the escarpment for lower-key evenings. The ASMI by Oberoi wellness programme adds hammams, indoor wellness pools, fitness spaces and a 65-metre infinity pool facing Wadi Safar.
Jeremy Canivet is already named general manager. Vikram Oberoi, CEO of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, has positioned the resort as understated luxury rooted in Diriyah's heritage brief rather than a Red Sea beach play. Jerry Inzerillo, group CEO of Diriyah Company, called Sukoonvilas a milestone because it will be the first hotel to welcome guests into Wadi Safar, a destination built around heritage, sport, wellbeing and nature beside the birthplace of the First Saudi State.
How it sits beside Oberoi's villa resorts
Travelers who know Oberoi's Indian villa and palace portfolio will recognise the format. Properties such as The Oberoi Rajvilas, Jaipur and The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur already sell privacy, landscape and ceremonial service. Sukoonvilas transplants that villa density to a Riyadh-adjacent escarpment, giving the brand a Kingdom foothold that is neither Jeddah urban nor Red Sea coastal.
For itinerary planners, early 2027 is the window to watch for rates and villa categories. Wadi Safar is still pre-opening as a destination, so ground transport, F&B outside the resort and day trips to Diriyah will matter as much as the keys themselves. If you want Oberoi service within easy reach of Riyadh's business calendar, this is the property to track; if you want reef and resort density, keep looking at the Red Sea coast instead.
Oberoi has not published public rates yet. Expect the usual villa-resort premium once reservations open, with residences aimed at owners who want the same ASMI wellness and dining access without living in a conventional hotel tower.
