Rosewood Hong Kong Keeps the World's No. 1 Hotel Title for a Second Year

Rosewood Hong Kong retained The 50 Best Hotels crown in Paris, becoming the first property to hold No. 1 twice since the ranking launched in 2023.

Rosewood Hong Kong has been named the world's best hotel for a second straight year, taking the top spot on The 50 Best Hotels 2026 list revealed on 15 September in Paris. The Rosewood flagship in Hong Kong is the first hotel to defend the No. 1 ranking since the awards launched in 2023, and it also claimed Best Hotel in Asia.

The ceremony moved to Les Salles du Carrousel for the first time outside London, drawing more than 800 Academy voters' results into a ranking that still rewards places guests actually stay. For travellers, the headline is simple: a 2019 harbour landmark that already sits high on most Hong Kong wish lists just got an official reason to stay booked out.

What Guests Actually Get at the Top Spot

The Tsim Sha Tsui property occupies the K11 Victoria Dockside development with 413 rooms and suites shaped by designer Tony Chi. Public floors lean on museum-calibre art and harbour views rather than lobby theatrics. Asaya, the in-house wellness programme, runs across multiple levels with nine treatment rooms, an infinity pool facing Victoria Harbour, and two private Asaya Lodges on a sun terrace for guests who want spa and sleep tech without leaving the property.

Dining keeps the building useful beyond check-in. BluHouse, CHAAT, XX, and The Legacy House give different moods under one roof, which matters when you are paying for a stay that already competes with destination restaurants across the harbour. The hotel also sits beside shopping, waterfront walks, and the city's cultural core, so the ranking reinforces a practical urban base rather than a remote resort fantasy.

Who Sat Just Below Rosewood

Asia took seven of the top ten places. Capella Bangkok rose to No. 2, with Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River at No. 3. Atlantis The Royal in Dubai landed at No. 4 and picked up Best Beach Hotel. Passalacqua on Lake Como led Europe at No. 5 and kept Best Boutique Hotel for a third year. Further Asian strength came from Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing at No. 7, The Upper House at No. 8, and Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok at No. 10.

Rosewood as a group also won the Ferrari Trento Most Admired Hotel Group Award, a separate Academy vote that tracks brand-level momentum beyond a single address.

Why This Ranking Matters for Your Next Booking

The 50 Best Hotels is not a guidebook inspection. It is a peer-and-traveller Academy vote based on stays within a three-year window, adjudicated by Deloitte. That means the list rewards hotels that leave a durable impression after real nights in the building. For anyone planning Asia or Europe trips in 2027, the Paris reveal is a live map of where ultra-luxury demand is concentrating: riverside Bangkok, harbour Hong Kong, and a handful of European houses that still feel personal at scale.

If you are chasing the current No. 1, start with dates around major holidays and art-fair weeks in Hong Kong. Suites with direct harbour sightlines and Asaya Lodge nights go first. Capella Bangkok and the Chao Phraya Four Seasons are the clearest alternates when Victoria Dockside is sold out, and both already sit inside the same top-three conversation.
