Taj Hessischer Hof Celebrates Taj's First Continental Europe Hotel in Frankfurt

Taj's late-September inauguration of Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt marks the brand's first hotel on the European continent, with 126 keys open since June.

Taj marked the official inauguration of Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt in late September 2026, confirming the brand's first hotel on the European continent after London's long-standing UK pair. The 126-key property at Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage 40 has welcomed guests since 1 June 2026; the grand opening with about 400 guests closed the ceremonial chapter for IHCL's gateway into continental Europe.

IHCL operates the hotel for Peakside Capital, which bought the building and an adjacent office block in December 2022. Albert Mayr is general manager. For travellers who already know Taj's palace hotels in India, Frankfurt is a different brief: a mid-century House of Hesse landmark revived for trade-fair weeks, banking towers and overnight city stays rather than a lake palace or desert fort.

Rooms, dining and the return of Jimmy's Bar

The inventory spans 117 rooms and nine suites across eight categories, including a 140-square-metre Royal Presidential Suite with two bedrooms, a meeting room and a kitchenette. Hamburg studio JOI-Design led the three-year renovation, keeping original parquet, wood panelling and marble while introducing Indian-inspired colour and textiles. Bombay Brasserie, Taj's first German restaurant, seats about 60 indoors and 45 on the summer terrace under executive chef Nilesh Dangwal, who trained at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai.

Jimmy's Bar is back with piano, cocktails and cigars under Emmanuel Saridakis, open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. The Lobby Lounge & Bar covers daytime and evening soft traffic. J Wellness Circle brings an Ayurveda-inspired spa with private treatment rooms, two saunas and separate steam rooms, plus a 24-hour fitness centre. The Chambers private business club launches for the first time in continental Europe with meeting rooms named Mumbai, Frankfurt and Delhi.

Why Frankfurt is Taj's continental bridge

Before this opening, Taj's only European hotels were St. James' Court and Taj 51 Buckingham Gate in London. Frankfurt puts the brand opposite the Messe and near the financial district, which matters for guests who need a serious city hotel rather than a resort. The Hessischer Hof first opened in 1952 on the site of Prince Wolfgang of Hesse's city palace, closed in late 2020 during the pandemic, and now returns under Indian ownership and operation after a careful rebuild.

If you are routing through Germany for a fair, a corporate week or a one-night stop before a Rhine or Bavaria trip, Taj Hessischer Hof is the Taj address to book. Pair it with the brand's Indian flagships when you want the same service language at both ends of a long-haul journey, and treat Jimmy's Bar and Bombay Brasserie as the public-facing proof that the house is open for locals as well as overnight guests.
