Timing matters more at these properties than most travelers assume — some are seasonal outright, others have a two-month window that defines the entire trip.
Seasonal properties (don't book outside the window)
Aman Le Mélézin in Courchevel only operates through the winter ski season and is closed through the summer entirely. Four Seasons Bora Bora is mid-renovation with a stated reopening timeline — confirm current status directly before booking anything around it.
Wildlife-timed stays
Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is worth timing deliberately: the Great Migration typically passes near the lodge roughly May through July, with a second calving-season window January through March. Outside those months you'll still see resident wildlife, but not the marquee event.
Shoulder-season value
Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice is dramatically less crowded — and better value — in April–May or late September–October than in peak summer, when Venice's general tourist density becomes the limiting factor on the trip regardless of hotel quality.
