Baur au Lac is a family-run grand hotel at Talstrasse 1, set in its own private park beside Lake Zurich and the Schanzengraben. Johannes Baur opened the house in 1844, and the Kracht family now manages it in the seventh generation. The 119 rooms and suites include 27 Junior Suites and 18 suites, with individually designed interiors shaped by Louis XVI and Art Deco influences. Bürkliplatz, Bahnhofstrasse, the Old Town, Tonhalle, Opera House, and Kunsthaus are all close enough to explore on foot.
Choose the room category carefully. Singles, Doubles, standard Junior Suites, City Suites, and River Suites do not promise a lake view; the Lakeside Junior Suite is the first water-facing category, while City, River, Lakeside, and Lakeside Corner Suites add separate living rooms. Ask reservations to settle the exact balcony, occupancy, connecting setup, and accessibility needs before arrival. Dining also needs a little planning: Marguita closes October 12–18, 2026, and its dinner start is printed as 18:00 by the restaurant but 19:00 by the hotel, with both ending at 21:45. Baur’s Brasserie is closed through October 11 and plans to reopen October 12. Baur’s Bar remains open, though its Sunday brunch is shown ending at both 14:00 and 15:00. Afternoon Tea at Le Hall is paused until October 2026.

Skip it if a swimming pool, sauna circuit, or full in-house spa is essential: the fifth-floor fitness club is the only on-site wellness facility, massage and physiotherapy are arranged by the concierge, beauty services are next door, and swimming means visiting a public lake or river bath. Pavillon is no longer an option; Marguita replaced the former two-Michelin-star restaurant in summer 2024.
