Aman Names Amanolu as Its First Maldives Resort for a 2028 Debut
Aman will open Amanolu in Vaavu Atoll in 2028 with 52 keys, a wellness island and 16 five-bedroom residences, each on its own private island.
Aman has named its first Maldives resort Amanolu and set a 2028 opening in Vaavu Atoll, one of the archipelago's quieter stretches. Channel NewsAsia Luxury and Euronews reported the announcement in late September 2026, filling a long gap in Aman's Indian Ocean map.
The name blends the Sanskrit word for peace with Olu, a water lily common across the region. Kerry Hill Architects, a frequent Aman collaborator, is designing the 52-key resort around white coralline beaches, lagoons and indoor-outdoor rooms that keep the landscape in view. Aman says the project will join a portfolio of 36 hotels, resorts and branded residences across 21 destinations.
Wellness island, activity island, private homes
Amanolu spreads across dedicated islands rather than packing every amenity onto one reef rim. A wellness island will hold an Aman Spa and the brand's Spa Houses. A separate activity island covers diving, snorkelling and watersports. Dining will draw on Aman's global culinary concepts, with family and gathering spaces still light on public detail.
The 16 Aman Residences are the sharpest differentiator. Each five-bedroom home sits on its own island, with private beaches, a 25-metre pool, a personal berth and staff accommodation. Some residences face sunrise, others sunset; a few have beaches on both sides. That setup aims at buyers and long-stay guests who want Aman service without sharing a single resort shoreline.
Why the timing matters
Maldives inventory already includes ultra-luxury names such as Soneva Jani, Cheval Blanc Randheli and The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort. Aman's late entry is deliberate: fewer keys, a dedicated wellness island and residences that occupy whole islets rather than a row of overwater villas.
Guests planning 2028 Maldives itineraries should watch Amanolu for opening rates and residence release timing. Until then, Aman's nearest Indian Ocean peers remain its Indian Ocean-edge resorts elsewhere; Amanolu will be the first time the brand plants a flag on Maldivian sand.
