Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort sits on Mackenzie Sound in British Columbia's Southern Great Bear Rainforest, accessible without a road and centred on nine private two-bedroom cabins: six Waterfront and three Forest. The Murray family welcomed its first guests on June 1, 1981, while a separate official travel-trade page gives 1980 as the opening year. Each cabin has one bathroom, wet bar, living space and patio; the house describes all of them collectively as approximately 700 square feet. Forest is the included cabin type, while guaranteeing Waterfront is extra and subject to availability. This is a fixed-pattern wilderness stay rather than an open-calendar hotel: arrivals and departures are Monday or Thursday for three, four or seven nights.

Settle transport before reserving connecting flights. The usual route is a roughly one-hour wheeled charter from YVR South Terminal to Port Hardy, followed by an approximately 20-minute floatplane flight to the resort. One current transfer document places the Port Hardy departure at about 4:30pm; a detailed official access article says about 4:45pm. The same-day Vancouver cutoff is also inconsistent: the FAQ says arrive at YVR no later than 11am, while the access article says by noon. The house's safest advice is to arrive in Vancouver the previous night. Resort check-in is strictly 5pm, departure is by 2pm, and an onward YVR flight should be no earlier than 9pm or on the following day. Weather may replace the normal floatplane leg with a resort boat, and a helicopter can sometimes be arranged at extra cost. Transfers are extra, third-party terms apply, and each guest is limited to a non-poolable 35-pound soft-sided bag; request any additional weight in writing at least 14 days ahead, without assuming approval.

Choose the layout with equal care. Waterfront 1 and 2 and Waterfront 5 and 6 publish a family limit of four with young children, while Waterfront 3 and 4 and Forest 7, 8 and 9 publish up to five; a general cabins statement instead says every cabin can take five. Current cards describe enclosed main-level bedrooms in Waterfront 1 and 2 and Forest 7, 8 and 9, even though an official cabin story says every primary bedroom is open concept. Children under 12 must share with an adult, while teenagers may use an adjacent cabin. Every layout has some main-level sleeping space, but no accessible cabin, step-free route, elevator, stair count or adapted bathroom is published. No cabin has a private pool or hot tub. Two shared waterfall hot tubs are explicitly counted; other pages also describe floating hot-tub access but do not support a reliable resort-wide total.

Reserve the experiences that truly need lead time. The base stay includes three meals, snacks and house beverages; Little River serves breakfast, lunch and changing dinner formats without publishing clock hours. September Lounge and Melody Room are distinct named wings without separate service schedules, and Fire Dock is a floating cocktails and storytelling space. Taste the Wild, including its private-chef Ocean Table feast and private or kitchen-pass formats, should be pre-booked, as should Coastal Safari, Heli Adventure, Kids in the Wild and the multi-day Wellness Within the Wild enhancement. Wine in the Wild is unusual: its current card says advance booking is unnecessary but asks guests to signal interest. Individual spa treatments are generally arranged onsite subject to availability. Included wellness covers floating-sauna circuits, waterfall-side and floating hot-tub access, forest bathing, sound bowls and daily movement; treatment and facility hours are not published. Current wellness pages also disagree on whether Rhythms of Nature includes a choice between Intertidal Scrub and Ayurvedic Head Massage or the scrub alone. Current Little River stories preserve two design inspirations as well: Thunderbird in one account and eagle in another.

The operating season needs confirmation for the chosen year. Current official wording ranges from mid-May to mid-October, through mid- or middle May to late or the end of October, to the broader May-through-October description; no single exact closing date is consistent. Wildlife and fishing remain seasonal and never guaranteed. The base programme includes paddling, hiking, beachcombing, local bear viewing, swimming, snorkelling, wilderness picnics and daily movement; the family page also describes fishing, local boat rides, tubing, water-skiing and wakeboarding as included family-tailored possibilities rather than a guaranteed daily schedule. There is no conventional swimming pool. Every guest signs the current waiver on arrival, with a parent or guardian signing for anyone under 19; children under seven wear a provided life jacket on docks except within the stated supervised-program exception.

Read the cancellation boundary literally and ask for written clarification. The live policy grants a transferable voucher for cancellation 90 days or more before arrival, while the current PDF says more than 90 days and makes fewer than 90 days fully non-refundable, leaving exactly 90 days ambiguous. Buyout wording similarly uses more than 120 and fewer than 120 days, while the PDF's longer-boundary phrase is malformed, leaving exactly 120 days unclear. Buyout capacity also varies by context: the cabins page says groups of 26 or fewer, the exclusive-use page says up to 20, the FAQ recommends no more than 18 for corporate groups and allows up to 30 for a family gathering with children. Confirm the actual guest mix rather than choosing one number.

Book Nimmo Bay if fixed Monday or Thursday movements, a Forest cabin unless Waterfront is guaranteed, communal meals and a weather-led wilderness programme are part of the appeal. Skip it if you need road access, arbitrary dates, a winter stay, guaranteed wildlife, fixed dining or facility clocks, a conventional pool, published room service, a declared pet policy or certified step-free accommodation. The house does not publish standard meal-delivery hours or availability, a pet or service-animal policy, or a comprehensive accessibility standard.
